Goran Dragic torches Washington for a season-high 34-points as the Heat beat the Wizards, 112-101. John Wall and Bradley Beal combined for 59 points but got very little help from their teammates as Markieff Morris was the only other Wizards player to score in double figures (10) tonight. Just when it looked like the Wizards were building some momentum, they lay and egg against the Heat.
Wall and Beal combined for 20 points in the first quarter and it felt like they could be onto something special tonight. Unfortunately, the rest of the Wizards combined for just nine points but the Wizards still led, 29-28 after one quarter.
The Wizards bench came in and went on a first quarter run to stretch this lead out to eight, 38-30 midway through the second quarter. However, the Wizards starters would blow the lead as the Heat ended the quarter on a 15-4 run and led, 59-53 at halftime.
The Wizards regained control in the third quarter behind some hot shooting from Bradley Beal as they recovered and extended their lead to five, 80-75.
Brooks toyed with the lineup of Burke-Wall-Beal-Oubre-Morris for a good chunk of the fourth quarter but it never generated a spark. Dragic put the nail in the coffin as he buried an elbow jumper with 1:40 to play to put the Heat up for good, 108-101. Wizards lose 112-101, fall to 9-14.
Wizards have no answer for Goran Dragic
As mentioned, Dragic scored a season-high 34 points tonight on 14-23 shooting. Dragic was able to get to the hole, had the mid-range game going, and knocked down two three-pointers tonight. The Wizards tried putting extra length on him in Oubre and Porter but that didn’t work either. The Wizards simply had no answer for him tonight.
Big game from the backcourt
John Wall and Bradley Beal combined for 59 points tonight. Problem is, they didn’t get much help from their teammates who collectively had just 42. Beal was in attack mode tonight and was looking to get to the rim rather than settle for outside jumpers including a perfect, 5-5 from the free-throw line. Wall was his usual self with 30 points, eight assists, and six rebounds but was a bit careless with the ball at times. Even so, it’s tough to put any blame on either of these guys as they didn’t get much help from their teammates.
Wizards get crushed on the glass
The Heat outrebounded the Wizards 47-36 tonight behind 16 boards from Hassan Whiteside. The Heat had 11 offensive rebounds, many resulting in second chance points for the Heat and back-breakers for the Wizards. Gortat had 10 rebounds tonight but was manhandled by Whiteside in the paint. The Wizards traditionally struggle with the Heat and tonight was no different.
