The Wizards trailed by 15 at halftime and looked dead in the water. But big second halves from John Wall and Bradley Beal propelled a comeback as the Wizards beat the Nets, 118-113 for their second road win of the season. Seven Wizards players scored in double figures led by John Wall with 25 points and 13 assists. Bradley Beal got off to a slow start but ended the game with 18 points while Marcin Gortat notched yet another double-double with 10 points and 12 assists as the Wizards go 1-2 on this three-game road swing.
Both teams started this game shooting hot. The Nets were able to distance themselves in the second quarter as they utilized a 14-4 run to stretch the lead to 10 and as big as 15, 66-51 as the Nets led at halftime.
The Wizards had an excellent start to the third quarter with some easy buckets around the rim from Gortat and two three-pointers from Otto Porter as the Wizards opened the quarter on a 14-0 run.
Kelly Oubre had another nice game with 10 points on 2/5 shooting from three-point range and none bigger than the one at the end of the third quarter as the Wizards regained the lead 83-80.
The game remained close for the entire fourth quarter as the team alternated buckets. The Nets were able to take the lead 100-98 midway through the fourth quarter but the Wizards never flinched. Wall hit several tough shots down the stretch as well as Beal as the Wizards would hang on for an 118-113 victory.
Wizards let it fly from 3
The Wizards shot 34 three-pointers tonight connecting on 14 of them, both season-highs. The Nets, not the Wizards are known for letting the long ball fly but tonight, the Wizards wanted to get in on the action. Six Wizards players made three-pointers tonight led by Otto Porter who was 4/5 from distance. Beal was 3/8 from distance and the bench combined to make six three-pointers. Three-point shooting was an issue for this team early in the season; they look to be turning the corner.
Wizards turn the Nets over 21 times
The Wizards turned the Nets over 21 times including 17 steals. Markieff Morris had four steals for the Wizards, with all of them coming in the third quarter. The Nets aren’t a great team when it comes to taking care of the rock but give the Wizards credit, they stepped up towards the end of the game and came up with big stops and steals. The Wizards turned the 21 turnovers into 35 points.
Another great game for John Wall
John Wall pitched a near perfect game with 25 points, 13 assists, and three steals. He looked to be more energized on the defensive end tonight and came up with two big steals at pivotal moments. Wall has become more comfortable with this no-look flip pass and it’s resulting in easy buckets. Look to see it more often.
