The Wizards use a fourth quarter rally to come back and fend off the 76ers, 116-108. John Wall was a star again for the Wizards scoring 37 points and Marcin Gortat turned in his best game of the season with 18 points and 20 rebounds (career-high).
The Wizards had way more talent than the 76ers and that was apparent as the Wizards forced their will to a 60-48 halftime lead.
Things fell apart for the Wizards in the third quarter as the Sixers went on a 19-4 run to take the lead 67-66 midway through the period. Isaiah Canaan topped it of with a corner three-pointer right in front of the Wizards bench and had some words for the bench too.
Philly led 82-79 entering the fourth quarter and this had #SoWizards written all over it.
The Wizards utilized a 16-0 run of their own to regain the lead. John Wall was not settling for jumpers and was getting to the hole. Gortat had a couple of and-1 opportunities. And Markieff Morris hit key jump shots as the Wizards regained the lead 110-100.
Ish Smith gave Wizards’ fans a bit of heartburn when he knocked down an arching three-pointer to cut the lead to three, 110-107, with just 25 seconds to play. But the Wizards wouldn’t falter and closed this game out, 116-108.
The Wizards should have lost this game. Against any other team in the NBA, they probably would have. Fortunately they were playing the 76ers tonight.
Markieff Morris turns in his best game as a Wizard: I was very apprehensive when the Morris trade took place but am warming up to him more and more with every passing game. Morris had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. It should also be noted that Morris started for Dudley. Morris had a very solid mid-range game tonight, was effective in the post, and always made the right pass after getting double teamed. Morris was 0-2 from three-point range and still hasn’t hit a 3-pointer as a Wizard yet. Even so, a very solid performance tonight.
Marcin Gortat: Marcin Gortat may have turned in his best performance of the season tonight with 18 points, 20 rebounds, and five assists. The Polish Hammer had half of the Wizards’ offensive rebounds (7) and a third of the Wizards defensive rebounds (13). On top of that, Gortat was very effective in the post often getting matched up against Nerlens Noel. Gortat missed a few bunnies but we’ll give him a pass tonight.
