Isaiah Thomas scores 23 points as the Celtics blow this game open in the third quarter to beat the Wizards 116-91. The Celtics sweep the season series between these two teams with three of the four games ending in blowouts.
Otto Porter returned to the starting lineup after missing some time with an ailing hip. Porter scored 15 points to lead the way for the Wizards. Marcin Gortat is still on a roll. Gortat scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Polish Machine has now grabbed 10+ rebounds in six-straight games.
John Wall was a non-factor tonight. Wall scored eight points on 3-11 shooting. The Wallstar dished out a quiet 10 assists tonight but also turned the ball over four times.
Once again, the Wizards had no answer for Isaiah Thomas who scored 23 points on 8-14 shooting including 2-3 from distance. Wall, Temple, nor Neal were able to stay in front of Thomas.
The lead seesawed back and forth for more of the first half but the Celtics always commanded control with runs to end all four quarters.
Marcus Smart and Kelly Olynyk hit three-pointers early in the fourth quarter to bust the lead open and the rout was on.
All in all, this was an embarrassing loss for the Wizards. The Celtics played in Philadelphia last night whereas the Wizards had four days of rest as their game against the Jazz was postponed due to the blizzard. The Wizards looked like they didn’t want to play tonight.
They were sloppy with the ball (20 turnovers), did not give any Celtics players resistance at the rim (42 points), and really, just couldn’t do anything right tonight. The Wizards have a chance to bounce back against the Raptors tomorrow night but optimism is not high at the moment.
