Great all around team effort as the Wizards go into Madison Square Garden and pull away from the Knicks in a 98-83 victory. Six Wizards players scored in double figures led by Garrett Temple and Paul Pierce with 17 a piece. John Wall chipped in with 11 points and 7 assists while both starting bigs Nene and Gortat added 6 points and 7 assists a piece.
The game took a turn in the third quarter with the Wizards tenacious defense. Jump shots that were falling for the Knicks in the first half were not falling in the second. The Wizards managed to turn the Knicks over 18 times leading the several fast break points for the Wizards. Carmelo Anthony really struggled from the field shooting 8-23 and ending with 22 points. A lot of credit goes to Drew Gooden III who switched onto Melo in the 3rd and fronted him from receiving the ball and harassing him when he did receive it.
The Wizards bench was the story of this game. The #benchmob combined for 41 points with Kevin Seraphin shooting 6-7 for 15 points with Andre Miller and Drew Gooden chipping in 12 and 10 points respectively. The Wizards blew the game open in the first 5 minutes of the 3rd quarter and there was no turning back. The Knicks would come back with several 3 pointers but the Wizards always had an answer. Whether it was Andre Miller schooling a Shane Larkin or Garrett Temple knocking down 3’s, there wasn’t much the Knicks could do once their jump shots stopped falling. The win moves the Wizards to 3-1 overall and 2-1 on the road while the Knicks drop to 2-2. No time for a let down with Indiana coming into town tomorrow night.
